In 2018 Education Congo established a relationship with Université Evangélique en Afrique (UEA), located in the Eastern Congo city of Bukavu. This is in the mineral-rich, war-torn area of Congo. Despite these challenges, the modern campus is home to some 3,500 students.

UEA offers degrees in:

  • Agronomy and Environment
  • Medicine and Community Health
  • Economic Science and Business Administration
  • Social Sciences
  • Theology

First woman rector of UEA

In September 2023 Fatuma Ngongo Kilongo was elected Rector by UEA’s board. She received her PhD from UPC, the university in Kinshasa that we support! Fatuma is living proof that the answer is education and that education builds the foundation from which long-term solutions grow.

UEA has an outreach center where poor women from surrounding rural villages are brought to learn life skills and break the cycle of extreme poverty. This type of outreach—supported by the university and with many student volunteers, is an excellent example of higher education working to reduce exploitation and poverty while working to build capacity and empower women!
